All that being said, I am always on the lookout for fabric and bead jewelry that suites my taste. I really admired these simple and bright wrap bracelets from carleymarley.
Yesterday was the 30th Street Craft Market. It was a beautiful sunny day, with lots of the shoppers who had come out just for the fair and others who were just passing through 30th Street Station. It was fun to see where everyone was from and where they were going to. After some help loading in, once again L and her Grand dad went on an adventure, this time to the circus! I was left to have fun just vending with Mike and was able to check out all of the wonderful goods. We where next to some lovely west Philly friends Jane Broadbent and Squidge & Bean. Jane makes beautiful and sturdy functional ceramics. Gemma makes extremely affordable luxury knitwear for home, baby and you! Knitting for summertime is a bit hard to wrap your head around she succeeded in doing it beautifully. Every vendor at the market was incredibly talented and creative. I was excited to buy this large print of an Atlantic puffin from Laura Murdoch. She makes finely detailed drawings of fish and has expanded her repertoire to birds as well. I have always been fascinated with the Arctic Circle and historically the inhabitants of the northern Atlantic Coast and Iceland. The puffin is one of those and is such a beautiful and captivating bird. Here's more info on Puffins. I, sadly have a quite a strong metal allergy. I love jewelry but don't often wear it because of the itchiness that ensues. Even sometimes the sterling chains make me think it will be itchy! I love to wear Mike's jewelry and use a silk cord for a tie. A gratuitous and true plug: the silver solder that Mike uses around the ceramic does not make me itch, ever! I have worn his necklaces for multiple days without taking them off, because that's the way I am, without any problem. All that being said, I am always on the lookout for fabric and bead jewelry that suites my taste. I really admired these simple and bright wrap bracelets from carleymarley. I love the undersea mobiles by Elissa Kara of nice things handmade on Pasyunk Ave. She makes terrific cold weather hats and as she said the mobiles are just some hats upside down, in the most wonderful way! In that way of small town of Philadelphia, Elissa and I went to the same small high school. It's pretty great that we get to be the same craft scene doing just what we love. So many thanks to the lovely Emily from VIX Emporium for doing such a fabulous job with the Market. Looking forward to many more in the future!

This Saturday is our last Market till Fall and we are very excited about it! The last 30th Street Craft Market was inside 30th St Station. It was a beautiful place to vend and we had so many new customers, many of whom were just visiting Philadelphia. It was a tremendous success for Emily from VIX Emporium who had partnered with UCD for the event. This time we'll be outside on The Porch a new outside urban space that caters to a variety of free outdoor events. The Craft Market is chock full of talented vendors, all with beautiful and unique items. I've curated a treasury of some of my favorites on etsy. Here is VIX Emporium's full vendor listing. Another treat in store on Saturday is The West Philadelphia Orchestra, performing from noon-2pm. They are one of my all time Philly favorites, I'm so excited for them to be the background to some of my day! Hope to see lots of Philly friends and fans on Saturday. Mike has been making delft ships and windmills all week and while I'm out of commission for two handed work I have plenty of summer kids wear ready to go. Looking forward to seeing you all!
What a fine day we had at Clover Market today! E was with her Grand dad, and with my injured finger I wasn't much help at the stand. So sweet old Mike did most of the vending today while I hunted for treasures and chatted it up with the other vendors. Old Blood Designs and Wrong World Ceramics were sharing a booth. They make a great West Philly Team! I saw new art by Lisa Hurwitz. I loved her paintings of little girls and boys wearing animal masks/ hats and the quietly vibrant butterflies. I wish these tea towels weren't a little out of my reach pricewise, but I loved the succulents flowerbox from Nannygoat Antiques. I'm a real sucker for antique petticoats and pantaloons. These are from Mae's Market. And here we are, reunited at home with the spoils of the day. With all my looking I managed to only get two things. A vintage dress for L that I just couldn't pass up and a skirt from Sardine Clothing. I've been looking for a while at her skirts and finally found just the right one.
What a fun day! We're hoping to be back for more Clovers in the fall. Thanks to all who came out and made the day such a success. |
